Silver Beaver Recipients
The silver beaver award is presented annually to selected adults, age 21 and over, that have demonstrated noteworthy service of exceptional character to the youth within our council. Only one award may be presented per year for every 60 units registered within the council. Here are the 2007 Westmoreland-Fayette Council Silver Beaver Recipients:
Glenn P. Gates
This Scouter earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth in 1971 and has been in scouting most of his adult life. He has served as Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for Troop 253 chartered by the Norwin Elks. He is currently registered in the Braddock Trail District with Troop 133, chartered by the Mount Pleasant VFW, as Assistant Scoutmaster.
J. Richard Hager
Rich has been involved in Scouting throughout his whole life. He joined the Cub Scouts in 1966 and went on to earn his Arrow of Light. As a Scout he earned his God and Country Award and the rank of Eagle Scout. He served on the Camp Conestoga staff and has earned the Uncle Ben Award. He became an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow in 1973 and has been involved with Wagion Lodge ever since and is a Vigil member of the lodge. He was recently awarded the Thunderbird Award by Wagion Lodge. In 1975 he attended Philmont Scout Ranch.
Thomas F. King
This recipient has a long history with the BSA beginning with his childhood years and culminating in the rank of Eagle being awarded in 1969 in the East Boroughs Council. After marriage he returned to the Scouting program when his son entered Cub Scouting.
Richard J. Marshall
This Scouter started his involvement in Scouting as a Den leader in the Cub Scout program in 1988. He served as Assistant Webelos Leader, Webelos Leader, Assistant Cubmaster and Cubmaster until 1997. He served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for ten years from 1995 to 2005. He has served as a Venture Crew Advisor from 1999 to the present.
Malcolm N. Sias
Malcolm has been a lifelong member of Scouting starting as a Scout and earning the rank of Eagle Scout in the early 70's. He served on Conestoga staff as Nature Instructor, Program Ranger, Mini-Phil Director, Assistant Program Director and Program Director from 1973 through 1978. He is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow Wagion Lodge.
