Scouting in the Westmoreland Fayette Council

W. D. Boyce brought Scouting to America from England in 1910. The program came to our two counties a year later in 1911. The year 1937 saw the two counties merge into one local Council which today is a non-profit corporation operating with volunteer officers and a volunteer board of directors. The Council employs 11 professional staff and 5 office staff and serves about 10,000 youth through the Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Learning for Life programs.

Westmoreland Fayette Council owns its central office located at 2 Garden Center Drive in Greensburg. It owns and operates Camp Tenacharison, a weekend camping facility near Smithton.

The Council also operates the main summer resident camping programs out of leased facilities in Laurel Hill State Park, Bakersville, PA. Eberly Scout Reservation, which includes Camp Conestoga and Camp Buck Run, comprises over 400 acres complete with swimming pool, a lake for boating and fishing, rifle range, and other program adventure sites.

The Council provides a full range of services to its Scouting units:
